It is the city of about 250,000 people. It is situated on Manila Bay, which afford only a fairly good harborage for vessels. Hurricanes sometimes sweep across the broad bay and scatter the shipping. The bay is noted in American history for the Battle of Manila, fought May 1, 1898. Here the american fleet under Dewey defeated the Spanish fleet and hammered the spanish ports to pieces.

The Pasig river divides the City of Manila in two parts-an old and new section. The old section is on the south side of the river. It was founded by the Spanish in 1570-71, by Legaspi. It was once made the capital of the islands, and this it has ever since. The old city is walled in. The wall dates from 1590. It is built of stone throughout, and is 2 1/2 miles long. Six gates through it connect with the chief streetw. Along this wall are old forts, and in front of it is a moat, once cross by drawbridges where the gates are. This is the way in which most cities were fortified in the Middle Ages.

You are looking down the principal street of the old city from the top of one of the gates in the wall. This street is the calle real which is the Spanish for King's Street. There are 16 other streets in the old section. This part formerly contained the government, school, and churc quarters. The business section lay behind the Pasig.

The Pasig is crossed by 4 bridges. The new city is partly on the island of Binondo. Here are fine, new streets and many new modern buildings. many of the stores are owned by the Spanish merchants. In many of small shops Chinese do a thriving trade."

Very fascinating views.

Gunji Yubin Card (Military Mail)

Imperial Star type card sent from HITO (Philippine) dispatch to Kyoto, Japan.

Handstamped purple censor marking and personal circular censormarking in orange.

Basically this card is a sample of miltary mail used by Japanese Imperial Army during the Ocupation in the Philippines. Another is the orange circular censor marking depicting the personal seal of the censor.

This is one of the few military cards during Japanese Occupation in the Philippines. do let me know if you have find any. This is the beginning of my passion for aerophilately. Although i dont have much, but my love for these subject is so mean that i keep on analyzing the trends of the items at Ebay at the same time do some little research. From there, i learn to appreciate that with much knowledge of the subject, patience and not-so-hefty bucks you can have this Philippine philatelic find, satisfying the appettite of the hobby and at the same time an investment which could give you a high premium once you intend to sell in the future. The ceremonies, less than half an hour long, took place on board the battleship USS Missouri, anchored with other United States' and British ships in Tokyo Bay, the Japanese envoys Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and Gen. Yoshijiro Umezu signed their names on the Instrument of Surrender. The time was recorded as 4 minutes past 9 o'clock. Afterward, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Commander in the Southwest Pacific and Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, also signed. He accepted the Japanese surrender "for the United States, Republic of China, United Kingdom, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and in the interests of the other United Nations at war with Japan.".

Some isolated Japan’s far flung forces in the Philippines refused to surrender for months and years after. To hasten the situation and put the agreement in place thereby avoiding additional casualties and for the safety of the surrendering Japanese forces, the American forces issues the surrender leaflet. It set forth the proper procedures for Japanese Imperial Army and allies on how to deal the surrender.

Shown above is an actual sample of World War II surrender leaflet, not in good condition, written in Japanese with English translation.

Read as follows:

“The bearer has ceased resistance treat him in accordance with the International Law.
Take him to the nearest commanding officer. During the United States administration, Congress was responsible for issuing coinage. By an act passed March 2, 1903, a new currency system based on a theoretical peso of 12.9 grains of gold 900 fine, equivalent to one-half of a United States gold dollar. The circulating medium was to be the Philippine silver peso, which was to be legal tender for all debts, public and private, and its value was to be maintained on a parity with the theoretical gold peso. For this purpose the creation of a gold standard, or gold reserve fund, was provided for, and this fund was to be maintained and could be used for no other purpose.
The first U.S./Philippine coins were minted in 1903 in Philadelphia and San Francisco and bear both the Identities of the United States and "Filipinas" (Spanish for The Philippines).

Above images shows the 1908 US Philippines One Peso Coin of San Francisco mint. Designed by Melecio Figueroa. The obverse of the coin has the written denomination “ONE PESO” on it, along with “FILIPINAS”. It shows the figure of Liberty, a standing female figure, which is considered by many to be the daughter of the designer “Blanca”, in the the act of striking the anvil with a hammer. This was done to show the work being done by Americans in building a better Philippines. On the right side there is a simmering volcano, Mt. Mayon, topped with smoked rings.

The reverse of the coins bear the arms of US territories. This is a broadwinged eagle, sitting atop a shield divided into two registers. Hence, a new issue of stamps was made, of uniform type for Spain and her colonies, except as to the values given in the lower label of each stamp.
The stamps were typographed on tinted paper by the Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, Madrid, Spain. They were engraved by Don Jose Perez Varela; issued imperforate; measure 18¾ x 22 mm; and printed in sheets of 100 stamps, (ten rows of ten each). The quantities issued are unknown, although the supply that arrived from Spain was considerably large as to meet the demand until the end of 1868, when the remaining stock was overprinted "Habilitado Por La Nacion".
The design shows the left profile of Queen Isabella II, enclosed in an oval frame of pearls, and an elaborate diadem in the outer frame. The word "CORREOS" appears in the top label, with a white dot before and after it.
Four values were issued which correspond to the previous values of 5-cuartos, 10-cuartos, 1-real and 2-reales respectively. A Royal Order of December 5, 1864 authorised the use of the 3-1/8 and 6-2/8 centimos values on foreign correspondence whenever their value permitted, despite being originally intended for "interior" use. As the 'official' defense of the islands dwindled into defeat for the Filipinos and the Americans, the resistance grew in strength and numbers.

On January 2, 1942, the invading Japanese occupied the Treasury Building in Manila and captured almost $20.5-million worth of paper Peso currency, U.S., and an unknown amount of foreign currency. At the same time millions of dollars in coin and gold and silver bullion fell into enemy hands.Despite that, considerably more currency existed in municipalities and provinces outside Manila, and it was gathered up and destroyed before the Japanese could get to it.
The Japanese-sponsored government under Jose P. laurel outlawed the issuance of existing currencies and declared a monopoly on the issuance of the money and introduces a new denominations known as Japanese Invasion Money. Because of the fiat nature of the currency, the country fell the effects of hyperinflation, so much more to the American troops and guerilla fighters.

The demand for monetary currencies were high given the emergency situations the country faced. There is a felt need for guerilla fighters and American allies to have monetary denominations to sustain the resistance. When President Quezon fled from Manila to General Douglas MacArthur's headquarters on Corregidor, he created the first local Currency Committees, authorized create and print emergency occupation currency. Additional committees were eventually authorized and formed throughout the occupied country, and, as a result, came in a wide variety of designs. The notes they issued were done with the expectation and promise that they would be redeemed by a specific date after Japan was defeated and the Allies won the war. These special paper notes, most often crudely made, were used by American troops who remained in the hills as guerilla and resistance fighters against the Japanese, and by local citizens as well. To be caught by the Japanese with this money was often punishable by public execution.

Although far from complete, I will posts some of the great mementoes of Philippine Emergency Notes, also known as Guerilla Currencies, in my possession. Hopefully this will spark enough interest in some collectors especially the Filipinos, and non-collectors as well, to further explore the daily heroism that is exemplified within these notes , and the stories they hold.

From one of my collections: Emergency Notes from Misamis Occidental
Issued by the Misamis Occidental Currency Committee

Finding for the Jap Occ Scott#N7 is finally over!

Japanese Occupations in the Philippines is my favorite interests when I'm starting Philippine Philately. For one obvious reason, stamps of Jap Occs era were lesser in number so it is easy for me to fill those empty spaces, with the exceptions of some varietes. Some stamps command for a higher premium given the scarctiy and rarity of the item. Of all the classes, the Scott#N7, 1-on-4P Montalban Gorge is the most desirable varieties of the era. The catalog value for the used one amounts to $200. Only 19,000 of these stamps were printed and few of these remained to the hands of the collector. Most of these stamps were damaged during the war. Referring to my previous post, as promised, I already post the most sought stamps of the era. My Jap Occs stamps is now complete.

Rare Philippines 2c Rizal B/6 "VICTORY" Handstamped

Rare B/6 Scott# 464 VICTORY Hanstamped accompanied by a 1958 Certificate of Authencity.

US Philippines: 1946 Forwarded, Changed Address Cover

Philippines cover to the U.S. December 1945 Manila hand cancel and additional Washington D.C. This was later shortened to "Real"
On June 13, 1497, King Ferdinand & Queen Ysabel pegged the uniform value of the real. It was decreed that from a silver cut with weight equivalent to the Mark (German) with was half of a Cologne, there shall be sixty seven (67) reales. The Mark value became known as the "Marco de Castilla" and is roughly 230.0465 grams. Thus the weight-value of a real was 3.4335 grams. It was further decreed that fineness shall be in form of 11 dineros and 4 granos, translated as approximately 930.55 mills of Silver. The Spanish eight reales coin was set at a weight of 423.9 grains (27.468 grams) of .9305 fine silver. From that date, the coin only depreciated by 1.5% and not until the introduction of the modern milled coinage in 1732!
The coinage of Spain and its American colonies, especially Mexico came to dominate the Philippine commercial scene. Early in the Spanish colonial rule, the Philippine traders used hammered coins -- the "macuquinas" or cobs. Because of their rude mintage, they were odd shaped. They were known as the "hilis kamay".
The Barillas were the first coins struck by Spain for the Philippines. These were uniface brass coins which bore the coat-of-arms of City of Manila. They appeared in 1782, and had a value of about one centavo.Subsequently, new varieties of copper coins appeared from 1782. These were denominated as Octavo (Eight-Part) and Quarto (Quarter) 8 Octavo = 4 Quarto = 1 RealDuring the reign of Philip V, a Royal decree in 1728 brought the beginning of the milled or machine-struck coins for the Spanish colonies. This came about because of the popular and unscrupolous practice of some merchants to chip the existing coin to retain more silver for themselves. The coins were marked with border making chipping easy to detect.

Shown above, from one of my collections is a silver 1753 1 Reales Spanish Dos Mundos/Pillar coin of Mexico mint. This changed hands in the Spanish colonies particualrly Mexico as well as in the Philippines greatly as a result of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade which ensured their circulation in the East. This beautiful silver coins proclaimed by their bold design Spanish dominion over the Old World of Europe and the New World of the Americas and the East. They steadily came to replace the much abused cob coins through the medium of a prescribed circular shape sealed against debasement by a distinctive milled floral edge. On recto is the design depicting the Spanish Royal Coat of Arms.

Comments from fellow collectors are very welcomed, and an honor for me to share and grab some thoughts from you.

1945 Philippines US Naval Inter-Island Censored Cover

1945 Luzon, Philippines inter-island U.S. Navy Base 25 cover July 25, 1945 Cover posted at Naval Service Detachment, Division 25; Base 25, Santo Tomas, Luzon, U.S. Commonwealth of the Philippines. These issues were the postal and fiscal stamps issued by the Republicans under the leadership of General Emilio Aguinaldo.
The Filipino Republic was instituted by Aguinaldo on June 23, 1898, at this time assuming the office of President. The Filipinos, under Aguinaldo's leadership, had organised a Government which remained in force during the time of the overthrow of the Spanish Power in the Philippines; the Fall of Manila' and after hostilities had broken out between the Filipinos and the Americans on February 4, 1899. For at least ten months, the Filipinos were under control of neither the Spanish or American Authorities, but acknowledged the leadership and presidency of Aguinaldo. His Revolutionary Government had become recognised throughout the islands, except for Manila and some sea-ports still held by the Spaniards, such as Zamboanga. In those ten months, civil governments were established, a native army was organised, telegraph lines which had been destroyed during the insurrection were repaired, a postal system had begun, and a stamp tax enforced. In fact, all the basic steps had been taken towards the goal of a free Nation. Aguinaldo was taken prisoner by United States troops on March 23, 1901.
The devices composing the National Arms, adopted by the Filipino Revolutionary Government, are emblems of the Katipunan origin. The letters "KKK", which appear on the stamps, are the initials of this society whose complete name is "Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan", translated to mean "Soveriegn Worshipful Association of the Sons of the Country".
Whilst the Revolutionary Government did not, at any time, actually occupy Manila, they were recognised as being in charge of certain areas, and their postage stamps were also recognised as having postal validity in the areas which they did control.
THE STAMPS
An effort was made at Malolos, in September 1898, to issue the needed stamps for all governmental purposes, but the facilities were found inadequate. On November 2, 1898, a decree was issued formalising the Revolutionary Postal and Telegraph Service. A contract was made with a firm of lithographers in Manila by whom all the stamps actually issued and used were made. As correspondence with the insurgents rendered one liable to suspicion in the eyes of the American Authorities at all times, especially after the outbreak in February 1899, it is probable that hasty preparation and the necessity for secrecy and taking advantage of special opportunities for sending out supplies will go far to account for the part perforate, imperforate, and sometimes ungummed sheets sent out for use before being completed; some of which were used while others were found among supplies later captured by the Americans.
There can be no possible doubt that all the stamp issues were in actual use for the purposes intended. Used copies are quite scarce in all cases, and in some are quite rare. The reason for this is that practically all correspondence bearing these issues were destroyed by the recipients, lest it being found in their possession would be used as proof of complicity in the Insurrection, and would subject them to punishment.
All the stamps in this series were printed in sheets of a single pane and without any marginal legend. The stamps were all lithographed by the Lithographia del Gomes in Santa Cruz, Manila. All stamps, with the exception of the imperforate varieties, are perforated 11½ and along the colored lines separating the stamps. All the stamps, except the third type of "CORREOS" stamp were issued in 1898; however, exact dates of issue and quantities are not known.
The regular postage and telegraph stamps were in use on Luzon as early as November 10, 1898. Owing to the fact that stamps for the different purposes were not always available together with a lack of proper instructions, any of the adhesives were permitted to be used in the place of the other. Hence telegraph and revenue stamps were accepted for postage and postage stamps for revenue or telegraph charges.
POSTAL - CORREOS
Designed by Marcelino Gomez and printed by his company, Lithographica de Gomez in Santa Cruz, Manila. The value tablet consists of fine horizontal lines and the stamps exist in shades of carmine and vermilion. The stamps were issued in sheets of 50, (five rows of ten stamps each), with a total of 1,500 printed. Stamps are known to exist with double impression. (Scott #Y1)

POSTAL - CORREOS
A reprinted version of the above stamp, also designed by Marcelino Gomez and printed by the Lithographica de Gomez in Santa Cruz, Manila. This stamp resembles the previous issue, except that the value appears on a clear white background below the triangle, with the fine horizontal lines having been removed. It may further be distinguished by the upper label, with the letter "CORREOS" being slightly larger and wider spaced, causing the "S" to be much closer to the end of the label. Printed in sheets of 192 stamp, (16 rows of 12 stamps each), and exist in a range of shades from light vermilion to dark red. A total of 50,000 stamps were printed. Stamps are known to exist with double impression as well as imperforate between (both vertcially and horizontally). (Scott #Y2)
POSTAL OR TELEGRAPHIC - CORREOS Y TELEGRAPHOS
Designed by Marcelino Gomez and printed by his company, Lithographica de Gomez in Santa Cruz, Manila. Issued in sheets of 50, (five rows of ten stamps each), with a total of 10,000 stamp printed in shades of vermilion. (Scott #Y3)
REGISTRATION STAMP - CERTIFICADO
Printed in sheets of 144 stamps, (16 rows of 9 stamps each), and exist in shades of light green. A total of 7,200 stamps were printed. It is believed that five sheets (720 copies) exist imperforate. (Scott #YF1)

NEWSPAPER STAMP - IMPRESOS
Printed in sheets of 220 stamps (11 rows of 20 stamps each) and exists both perforated and imperforated. As most of the used copies seen are of the imperforate variety, it is believed that this was the earlier issue, and was not perforated through haste in providing the supply needed. The later issue was perforated, but probably seldom used, as cancelled copies are quite scarce. It is probable that very few of either issue were really used as intended, as newspapers outside Manila were not common, and the stamps could not be used from Manila, especially after February 4, 1899. There is a re-print of this issue which can be distinguished from the original by having a large final "A" in "MILESIMA". A combined total of 50,000 stamps were printed for both the perforated and imperforated stamps and issued in shades of black and grey-black. (Scott #YP1 and YP1a)
TELEGRAPH STAMP - TELEGRAPHOS
Both stamps were printed in sheets of 192 stamps, (16 rows of 12 stamps each). A total of 19,000 stamps were printed for each value. The 2c value exists in shades of violet and the 50c in shades of blue.
RECEIPT STAMP - RECIBOS
Printed in sheets of 153 stamps, (9 rows of 17 stamps each), and exist in shades of red-brown. No records are available to indicate the actual number of stamps printed.

(articles excerpts from nigelgooding.com, my sincerest thanks)

Scott#N7 1 on 4P Montalban Gorge

I thought my long wait is over, searching for the most elusive Philippines Japanese Occupations Stamps serie will be finally ended. The Scott#N7, 1 on 4P Montalban Gorge. One of the most scarcest and desirable of the Jap Occs issues. Since staring my Japanese Occupation collections, what always came to my mind is catching the most sought stamps of the era. Hard to catch for a rarest stamps of Japanese Occupation Issues. Only 19,975 were printed and few of these were left to the hands of the collector, most damaged during the war.

A few days ago, I painstakingly watched the movement of the bids of the said stamps at Ebay. A B/4 MNH, a starting bid of $9.95 posted by manilagallery. Catalogue value is $500. At the start, im expecting my self that whatever happen I will end up winning the item even for a price of $200. One thing I consider that I collect multiple blocks of stamps of this era.

Sunday past 11pm, 2 and half an hour to go for the bidding to close. Im staring to bid just to estimate whats the latest bidder premium on the item. At $81 im the current highest bidder with the thinking that im going to snipe the item for the last second even for the $200 price. Sad to say, i forgot to return back for me to do so for the last second bid. Unluckily, the early morning when I checked my account It end up a closing at a price of $104. A very cheap price for the N7, almost the amount of the catalogue for a spare N7 stamp.

Maybe there are some more to find, il do keep the searching. Maybe next time a good story to share and I promise Il post the picture the sooner I catch.

Philippine Jap Occs collectors are very welcomed, Im longing for your spare N7. maybe for a trade or a decent bucks.

Philippines Spanish Dominion Scott#88 Circa 1882

Just recently, I received above stamps I purchased from Ebay, an 1882 Alfonso XII 25 c B/20 MNH Scott#88.
This is one of a kind, superb mint never hinged condition despite the time of issue. Patiently waiting for my finds and do the keeping my ebay activities within the budgettary constraints. Reminding me to spare for this coming christmas season. I received three postal notes for me to pick up at the post office one of the few items im longing for now. Im so excited. Hoping to catch another find.

Another great addition for my collection received this week from local ebayer were the Philippine bank notes of superb condition. A lot of 1949 Central Bank English Series choice uncirculated except for the five hundred peso which is of almost uncirculated condition. Another lot from a different seller includes the WW1 1917 Philippine National Bank Emergency Circulating Note. A great addition to my so-called personal find. I dont have have the time to have them scanned for my posting. Always be updated.

But what really intriguing is that today is a World Post Day. It remarks the foundation of Universal Postal Union. The Universal Postal Union (UPU, French: Union postale universelle) is an international organization that coordinates postal policies between member nations, and hence the world-wide postal system. Each member country agrees to the same set of terms for conducting international postal duties. Universal Postal Union's headquarters are located in Berne.
Prior to the establishment of the UPU, a country had to conclude a separate postal treaty with each other country that it wished to carry international mail to or from. The United States called for an international postal congress, which was held in 1863. This led Heinrich von Stephan, German Minister for Posts, to found the Universal Postal Union, the second oldest international organization (after the ITU). It was created in 1874, under the name "General Postal Union", as a result of the Treaty of Berne signed on 9 October 1874. In 1878, the name was changed to "Universal Postal Union".
The UPU established that (1) there should be a more or less uniform flat rate to mail a letter anywhere in the world; (2) postal authorities should give equal treatment to foreign and domestic mail; and (3) each country should retain all monies it collected for international postage.
One of the most important results of the UPU treaty was that it ceased to be necessary, as it often had been previously, to affix the stamps of any country through which one's letter or package would pass in transit; the UPU provides that stamps of member nations are accepted for the whole international route.
After the foundation of the United Nations, the UPU became its specialized agency. For now,a brief introduction about Universal Postal Union.

A great honor for me to read my blogs, hope you find it informative. As is usually the case with those who indulge such sweeping generalities, they are at the same time quite right and absolutely wrong. It is correctly pointed out that the issues of the Republic of the Philippines, since its inauguration on July 4, 1946, with but few exceptions have extremely limited investment potential. The pre-1946 issues, however, present quite a different story. True, the catalog of the pre-1946 issues lists many stamps which have been cheap for forty years and more; which are cheap now; and likely always will remain cheap. In that respect, the stamps of the Philippines are no different from those of the USA or 'most any other stamp-issuing country. The Philippines specialist collector, however, soon learns which stamps, postal stationery and covers are cheap and which are . . . well, let us fall back upon the old standby euphemism, "elusive;" while not yet priced beyond the means of most collectors, many postal emissions are surprisingly difficult to find, especially in VF or better condition. Current catalog pricing and prices realized at auction sales are beginning to reflect that situation.
Make no mistake about the existence of a well-informed, discriminating and active body of Philippines specialists; i.e., active buyers of Philippine philatelic material. Twenty or thirty years ago. perhaps even ten years ago, such definitely was not the case; in those days, supply exceeded demand. The situation has been in a reverse trend, particularly in the past five years or so, and in certain specific areas of collecting, the demand is now showing definite signs of exceeding supply. To the dismay of the collector attempting to fill those nagging "blank spaces" in his collection, but to the joy of the seller, the dealer and the investor, many items which were available at single-figure prices a short time ago are now commanding high two-figure and low three-figure prices.
Much of the recent increased interest maybe attributed in some degree to the formation in 1974 of the INTERNATIONAL PHILIPPINE PHILATELIC SOCIETY (IPPS) of Manila - a group of Philippine specialists; followed a year later (1975) by the Philippine Philatelic Society of London, and, in 1976, by the Philippine Philatelic Society of Australia (PPSA). A substantial majority of the members of the IPPS and the PPS resides in the U.S.A. and all three societies publish journals of considerable merit. A newer group, the U.S. Possessions Philatelic Society (USPPS), has recently been formed, with an impressive starting membership of more than 200. The USSPS publishes a fine journal, and embraces the study of Philippines philately along with the other U.S. Possessions. Additionally, the journals of the leading Japanese
philatelic societies in the U.S. frequently contain articles relating to the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines, as do Japanese-language journals in Japan, where virtually any Occupation material finds ready buyers. The net result of all that activity, in my opinion, is a substantial gain in value of much Philippine material.
Even a moderately careful reading of the Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps, Philippine Section, will quickly identify the ad-hesives which display good investment possibilities; if one takes the trouble to compare prices in the latest 1979 edition with those of say, five years ago, the "good" numbers are even more quickly apparent: Scott Nos. 212; 223-25; 237-54; 273-74; 304,319a and b; 445; C8; C13-16; to list the most obvious. The stamps of greatest interest here in the U.S. quite naturally, are those of the U.S. Administration of the Philippines. In May, 1978, the Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc., sold the extraordinary W. Parsons Todd Collection which contained some 360 lots of U.S. Administration Philippines material, featuring multiples, blocks and imprint blocks of the number mentioned above. The total realization was in excess of a quarter of a million dollars; a single item, a Bottom Imprint and Plate Number block of six of No. 239, commanded an astonishing $27,000.00. I dare say the buyers of the Todd Philippines material do not anticipate a decline in the future value of their purchases.
The specific nature of the material in the Todd Collection brings me to the point of this overlong discourse: the true specialist looks well beyond the traditional catalog listings of single stamps, in unused and used condition, and seeks the multiples, blocks, imprint blocks, plate number blocks; the proofs, varieties and errors which are the hallmarks of fine specialized collections. With ever-increasing frequency, he abandons the catalog altogether and ventures ir o the collection of postal history, specifically into the collection of postal covers.
To become more specific, it is my opinion that the following is but some of the Philippines material which offers good investment potential:
SPANISH ADMINISTRATION: any cover with legible postal markings — and the same applies to the Aguinaldo era,
U.S. and COMMONWEALTH ADMINISTRATIONS. In my opinion, Scott does a fine job ol listing the early issues of the U.S. Administration, Nos. 212 to 240, which are listed and priced in five categories: as singles; on cover; blocks of four; margin strips of three; imprint and plate number and margin blocks of six, imprint and plate numbers. Yet subsequent issues of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing also are found on cover and bear imprint plate numbers, but remain unlisted and unpriced in those categories, in Scott or any other catalog. As far as I know, no study of those later plate 'numbers has yet been published, and most examples can be purchased at little or no premium. But someone eventually will publish such a study, and many of the plate blocks will then quickly become priced at considerable more than the traditional six or seven times the price of a single. Presently, no one knows the relative scarcity of the various plate blocks of that period; over the longer run, I think they offer good investment potential.
In the same period, commercial covers bearing examples of the 1914-23 Perf. 10 Regular Issues (excepting the 2c, 4c, and 20c values) are surprisingly scarce, and when found, bring ever-increasing prices. It is difficult to be too specific, because postmarks, registry, paquebot and other postal markings affect the value of a cover to the specialist collector. Most of the 2c values of the period are very commonly found on cover, and scarcely deserve a second look. But not so with No. 326, the 2c coil stamp of 1928. Soon after release, it became evident that coil stamps simply are not compatible with the tropical climate of the Philippines. I have never seen nor heard of No. 326 on cover, yet it stands to reason that such must exist. If you have one, I know where you can get considerably more than the undoubted two-bits you paid for it.
JAPANESE OCCUPATION. This is my area of particular interest, and it abounds in scarce and rare covers with good investment potential. Stern-
ly limiting myself to the discussion of but one example, Scott prices FDCs of N29-31 and N29a-31 a at $1.25, which I think is reasonable and proper _ for FDCs postmarked at Manila, and only at Manila. In fact, FDCs of October 14, 1943, were processed in 47 different provincial cities and town in the Occupied Philippines, and many are very scarce indeed. I have been searching for many years and still lack one town; I still hope to find it for 5(W or so in a dealer's "bargain box," but probably will have to pay the $50.00 or so it is truly worth.
POSTAL STATIONERY. Scott lists only the major numbers, and recently has increased prices substantially, almost across the board. But the specialist collector goes beyond the general listing to the specialized listings in the Philippines Section of the UPSS catalog, The Postal Stationery of the Possessions and Administrative Areas of The United States. Unfortunately, the prices appearing in that 1972 publication are more sadly out of date, but that defect inhibits the dedicated collectors not at all. With monotonous regularity, examples of Philippine postal stationery exchange hands in auction and private treaty sales at prices in excess of those listed in either catalog. Many collectors cannot, and most dealers will not take the time and trouble properly to identify postal stationery by size, knife, watermark, etc ... as a consequence of which examples will change hands many times at modest prices — until a specialist collector gets his hands on it, identifies it correctly, and suddenly, the price advances in satisfying multipliers. I guess that could be called "investing," of sorts; whatever it is, its great fun.
The WAMARVA Philippine Study Group announces that it will host a get-together for Philippine philatelic societies at BALPEX in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The get-together will include a special guest lecturer and is scheduled for 2 pfn, Saturday, September 1 at the Hunt Valley Inn.
Over the past several years, enthusiastic collectors in the Washington-Maryland-Virginia area have regularly been meeting to discuss their common interest-Philippine Philately. As a result of these meetings, the WAMARVA Philippine Study Group was formed. To the casual observer, these collectors appear somewhat peculiar due to their unusual language which includes words like papeles sellados, Aquinaldo, lloilo and Zamboanga. How-
ever, it is their interest in this peculiar language which binds them together.

1935 Manila to Soerabaja, Java

NETHERLANDS ROYAL AIR FORCE FLIGHTS
Via three Dornier WAL Flying Boats headed by Lt. Consider the development of aviation itself and one can find it reflected in the mail that was flown.

The path the limited flights of the pioneers, with special demonstration flights sanctioned to carry souvenir "airmail," whose successes inspired the development of aircraft in all forms, becoming increasingly fast, range-capable, and reliable, thereby making possible the air carriers, from regional to national, international, intercontinental, and transoceanic; and at every step, from the hesitant first to the confident final, there was - airmail!

Airmail, the actual flown documents, is the foundation of aerophilately. Aerophilately is composed essentially of postal documents carried by Air bearing evidence of having been flown. It represents a study of the development of air mail service s and a collection of documents pertaining to such development. It was not always the standard that it is today, but a premium service requiring the payment of special postage rates, often reflected in the airmail stamps that have been issued world-wide since early in the game. Special airmail markings applied to the airmail, the transit times reflected in dispatch and arrival postmarks, and the airmail postage rates all indicate the means of flight and the route taken. The world for the airmail collector is as wide and deep as one wishes to make it. The choice is unlimited.

The first recorded flight in the Philippines was in 1911, that is the 1911 BUDS MARS EXHIBITION FLIGHT marked the beginning of Philippine aviation. The development of Philippine Air Mail Service only commenced in 1925 when the U.S. Army Air Corps started to conduct survey and pioneer flight.

Although I don’t have much the capacity of having the physical possessions of the Philippine aerophilatelic material, what challenges me is to have a bust of knowledge on Philippine Aerophilately. Stupidity in a sense that I dont have the assurance that the item I paid for will be deliver to me on hand or what I gonna receive is the item describe according to my perception. Knicknacks in a sort that the item I buy is not the necessities I long for. An experience that drives me into the outside circle of mylife. A known symptoms of compulsive addictive behaviour. A new definition entered my life, such experience I call ebaying.

Ebaying adds different flavor into mylife, it introduces to me a life beyond numbers. It opens up my horizon to another field, not just keeping myself fond of the credit and the debit thing. From numeromania down to deeper sense of knowing history and culture. It engages me to a new field-philately and numismatic.

Philately deals with the study of postal history or engaging yourself in the fascinating hobby of stamp collecting. Numismatic relates to coins and currency.

Maybe in weeks time, I will start posting some of my philatelic and numismatic collections. Items that I've purchase from Ebay and on some philatelist and numismatist.

1898 Filipinas B/6 60C Alfonso Correos Telegrafos

Circa 1898

60 Centavos Telegraphic Stamps

B/6,MNH

Circa 1900s:Escolta Stereoviews

A closer look to the views of Escolta during the early 1900's, onced the principal business district of Manila. Anyway blogging has no definite rule to follow, it is a matter of how you speak your heart. From pretty simple things to intricacies in life that I have to face up, this gave me the venue to have a lot of subjects. But what hinders me the time I have to spent on writing given my the work constraints and my writing proficiency. I have to go on, blogging is such a mental exercise to speak your heart out even if it take me time to speak out. And so, my previous post have come out. Even though it take may time to do the writing, at the very least I have shared my thoughts.

Its been a year that I engaged my self at ebaying, numismatic and philately. Im trying to confined my posts about my ebaying experience, numistatic and philately. A good subject to share. Rough working days has finally over, a new weekend has begun....
It seems i have a quiet thought and the right time to rekindle the good old days and the past misfortunes. Not so long time ago, saturday morning is a time for me to clean my hang over spills. Physically and mentally. Me, which i considered a-not-so-incorrigible drunkard, have lost outlook in life. Time wasted, direction lost. I let myself drive into nothingness, something that reciprocate to my yesterday's dream. Something that is unassuming for my father's standpoint. I am so very special, same as he is. He is always there for me, no matter what. He is always there to remind me where should i going to. To travails in life challenges something worthful of me. Enjoy life through pain. These are some of life's lessons i've learned.

This time it's another saturday morning story. It's more than two years without my saturday morning daddy's sight. Questions ask myself. Is these the same Anthony more than two years ago or history repeating itself. No concrete answers filled my mind. It is the time to act now or never. It is a reckoning for me, i have to start a great leap now. It's not too late. Hope i have the pleasure of fresh saturday morning in mylife, a healthy life of tommorow awaiting for me.

Our preoccupation of past feats renders us incapable today. Today's reward comes from todays efforts. We cannot borrow yesterday's glory inorder to live productive life today. I have to live my LIFE something inherent of me. A LIFE of daddy's dream for me.

LIFE must be understood backward, but it must be lived forward as Danish Philosopher Kierkegard say.

(hope to see you soon dad)
